Marine life
you wanted to rip the starfish off its rock
one suckled lip at a time
an orange alert echoed up
through the water to my eye
a small stone circle
like me
reaches out every direction
keeps every option open-
goes nowhere
I pretend to pull but I’m letting go
this creature sticks to its stone
drowned on fire
how I cling to you as though nature told
me be underwater
creep deep
slowly beneath
in cold water
clear
I see myself
shimmer
