Chambers Creek

gliding parallel   in tandem
young mallard and his mate
eyes wide   laughing loud

touch down in sliding splash
noisily shake off excitement
wake once slumbered silence

waves encircle    widen   wane
diminish to prior smoothness
before reaching shore where

poised at waters edge a lone
blue heron like the vigilant
school librarian keeps watch
