Childhood
Days like
Flashing blades
Of grass
In the sun;
Dew-dappled
Nights.
He sees
No ghosts
Under the stars
No hyena laughter
Rings thru
His dreams
No wounds
Ooze and redden
The earth
Only quiet sleep
And purple seasons
Of lilacs in bloom.
Spring in the Coast Mountains
The wind sweeps
Downhill
Whispering
To shy leaves,
Quickening
Their pulses
Swirling the sweet,
White-limbed
Dogwoods
Into
Ecstatic
Eddies of passion.
