Cocoon
Each of us cocoon ourselves
in a bubble of our own reality.
The stroke victim
trapped in his speechlessness
grunts his way through
practice swings
on his tennis racket.
Another sits marinating
in vacation booze.
Another feels the late afternoon
summer sun toasting skin
listening to Billy Holiday blues
with beer and a dog and solitude.
Others are caught up in commerce
or in side slipping spousal minefields.
Each of us have our boundaries
on what is or isn't
and within those boundaries
we each walk or run or race
towards some inner goals
that no one else can legitimately
judge or evaluate
Each of us out of our cocoons
eventually emerge into
that worlds we create.
