Firing Line Love

Sometimes I love my wife and other times my wife
Loves me and rarely do we love each other
At the same time.
The definition of love is an accidental occurrence.
I can’t seem to get beneath the surface of labels.
But there is wine in our bottles
And vintage affection
That costs emotions or buoys them up.
Wife: I love you.
The anger, indifference and loathing have nothing
To do with the embracing of our arms,
Our torsos,
Our breath.
Let the definitions stand like toy soldiers.
I salute you.
You have taken me from my regiment and
Bewildered me on the other side.
I stand against a wall and welcome your firing line.
I am the dead aim of your shot and the affectionate
Bullet of your emotional trigger.
