Gigi

She is laughing, sure,
staring at the magic mirror
with wishes far away.
It's blank.
She doesn't know
what's in there
and she's
wanting it.

The Idea of a Stranger

I know her
seeing her on the street.
She will walk around me,
her dogs, pulling their leashes
around her legs,
eyes cast down
until her glance meets mine.

We have a long
history together
in a town just carved
out of the trees.
Designers created mind-things here
lawns and flower beds
out of neatness
and good intentions.

On Seeing "Truman Capote"

The poetry
calls out to me,
slow limpid,
moistly,
but I have to find the thought.

This poetry is
lost in muddles. A tone, toneless.
I see drops of saline,
hear a slow wet march
but can't find the thought.

I know, poetry
will be in words that break logic
someone's confession,
secrets in memories, gates
fragile and slowly opened.
