Goodbye and All That
Forty-five years from now, my dear,
when roots of your bleached hair turn gray,
no one will care that you were here
churning my passion to dismay.
Then you who led me by the nose
will crumple like a withered rose
upon the ground beneath which I,
insensate to all pain, will lie.
And if perchance you recognize
amidst chilled voices in the wind,
one, broken-hearted and chagrined,
don't dally to apologize
for canceling another tryst,
since that appointment won't be missed.
