Delphi takes my hand,
extends one finger,
helps it trace the letters
of a gravestone
whose edges are too sharp
for the lonely place
it resides in the wilderness.
But, I should know.
I set it here
twenty years ago
in this field of flowers,
of September butterflies,
of the large rock
I use to visit and sit upon
to think about God,
and dreams
and what exists unseen.
As tears spot the stone,
Delphi holds me
against the whorl
that spins the sky,
against the rush of grief
that heaves a belly,
against her love
that steadies
the quaking earth.
