Roadstone
Strands of thylacine fur snagged
in the rush of rivers through turbine generators.
The past stands like a startled sheep
in the headlights of our journey.
All plans
generate heat.
When we are still
bacteria's rheumy eyes
sprout by cardigans of rain.
The towering eucalypt
is as cold as the stones.
Life uses its own measure.
This far south
even your mouth
is forced to learn and listen.
