It's not Marcea's fault the crappy glass saltshaker is all caked up; you'd think she's the one that's made
the air so friggin humid the way Jasper calls her a knucklehead cunt while he tries to dress up his stupid
night-after-night same old baked potato before he has to iron his own damn shirt then head out to blow sax
for his Saturday night gig at the Flamingo Inn.
As a matter of fact, he's not the only one around here who's edgy: This whole dang city's liked a hotwire
just waiting to kick off in gasoline. But he could at least dredge up an ounce of decency for Marcea whenever
she drags her poor weary ass home from cashiering at the cross-town Wal-Mart. And ferchrissake, he should know
by now he is just plain damn lucky to get one more crummy potato to shake something on it

Next thing you know, it's Tuesday
Lady Julia Rigalo sharing with Marcea how she's not a hundred-percent but she reckons Jasper's flamingo-colored shirt
was busting its buttons all over a yellowish tall bloated body banging up against The Church as she sloshed through miles
of detritus to get to this fucking hell-hole of a shelter. "Guess it could've been one a them other fellas from the
band-maybe Lester Johnson-he's lease as tall as Jasper, ain't he?
Marcea swears heaven above she'd sacrifice her tits for just one lick a salt from behine
the ears of that god-fearin lamb.
"Asides a that," says Lady Julia, "dear lord-a-love Marcea, I don't reckon you'da
wanna be lickin whatever I lain my poor eyes upon."
And Marcea says, "You ain never know my dear Jasper's salt!"
