…his hand withdrew
and settled, once again
on his thigh. “Good art,” he said,
“runs off the canvas. It is, if you will,
sans frontier.” I turned the page and he gasped.
His palm
slapped over his mouth,
then gently wiped the moisture
of his cocktail from the bristles of his beard.
“Gustave Dore! A perfect example! Nothing but
religious imagery!” And with a huff, he flipped the page
and then mischievously
nestled his hand…
Mark Petrie is a graduate student at the University of New Orleans, studying English literature.
He has never been published in a literary magazine until now, though currently he is printing his poems out himself
and distributing them throughout the city of New Orleans for free.
