Taco Tuesday

Is the most satisfying day of the week.
I come home to lettuce and tomatoes,
Tortillas and a bare chested you.
You tell me about your day in such a hurry,
as if the hot sauce you're coaxing out of the bottle
has suddenly caught your underpants on fire.
It's something I'd like to see.

I sit on my stool and listen,
Waiting for you to pretend to chop your thumb off again.
You do.
I grin and bite my lip.
You hand me a head of lettuce to shred.
I hold it in both hands and take a bite.
You stare at me.
I chew.
We smile.

There's a fight over chicken or beans.
Eyes squint,
Noses wrinkle,
Promises for later that night are made.
Chicken it is.

I set the table, you snarl in my ear.
I try to focus on napkins,
It's hard with your hands on my hips.

We sit.
You eat a taco in two bites.
I watch,
Amazed,
Disgusted,
A little turned on.

I eat my taco,
Push my chair back,
Clear the table.
Do the dishes.
You come up behind me and nibble my ear.

Taco Tuesday will be the most satisfying night of the week.
