The Night Picasso Failed At Painting His Yawning Dog And Missed His Chance At Painting The Moon Like A Chipped China Plate In A Purple Sky

Picasso sat with his dog
brooding and smoking a cigarette,
finishing off a bottle of local red wine.
Everyone said the moon was like a chipped
china plate in a purple sky,
on that night.
His dog was sleeping
beside him, but woke
for a second, rolled over
and yawned. Pablo quickly
stubbed out
his cigarette, got his brushes,
his pallet, and sat up
a 12 X 15 canvas
and took a shot at painting his
yawning dog. But the light
wasn’t right and maybe his mind
wasn’t right (too much red), and he gave up in disgust
after a few minutes.
He sat back down and lit another
cigarette, brooding into the wine bottle, glaring
out his window into the night. Never once notcing,
never once perceiving, the moon
like a chipped china plate in
a purple sky.
