TV News

Morning, noon, evening, late night,
They flash it on your screen-
An episode of human drama,
A terrifying signal via satellite

At least, there is that brown Maya,
Singing a happy song at my window
She chirps telling me the tides will turn,
Bringing winds of change

Maybe, I should not disappoint her
Maybe, I should promise her the smiling sun
Because she may not have a mother
Who will prepare her nest

I will just switch channels,
And watch a Turner Classic Movie,
A rerun of I Love Lucy, Charlie's Angels,
Or even Sex and the City

They may not be the best entertainment,
But at least they are portals to escape reality,
Like how the birds bring me hope
Amidst all of the hopelessness

Maybe, you could hum a festive jingle
Maybe, you could zone me out from TV News
Because this window has turned bleak & dreary,
And we have remained mere spectators

Party of One, Please

Last night,
After my volunteer work to charity,
I was in such a festive mood,
So I went to watch a movie by myself,
And dined at a newly opened restaurant

I got a table, and the waiter asked:
"Waiting for somebody?"
I confidently replied: "No, just me.
And if only you're not working,
You're welcome to join me."
The waiter smiled at my friendly gesture,
And took my order

After a sumptuous, solo, exotic dinner,
I drove home in no rush,
Though it was really getting late

I got home and threw my socks just anywhere,
And had a peaceful sleep
Alone in my queen-size bed

I woke up today praying:
"Thank you, God
For giving me more energy to focus
On my career today, and for having
To deal with just one set of relatives.
Amen."
