Yellow and Blue
'to express the love of two lovers by a wedding
of complimentary colors, their minglings and
oppositions,....Letter #531
You take its smooth substance into your mouth,
and it is as if the very darkness of the room
were melting on your tongue, deeper than memory's
lack luster pretense there may be intoxication
as acidosis steeps through creases, rumpled sheets
on the bed. I'd like to say your fingernails trace
my spine and your cheek rests against my sleepy
eye, that I try to understand these moments mean
yellow is not simply yellow, that blue can be more
than the blue of convoluted constellations,
that saturnine stars predicting how darkly we spin
with or without a complimentary cocoon.
Pipe Dreams
I misheard lyrics playing on the stereo
when I was waiting for mascara to dry.
It emphasized the luminous shine of
wanting you because all afternoon
I'd fantasized about what we could do
with soft leather. If this is less controlled
than craving a Moroccan market place
where women wear black and men
escape to pray every Friday, I'd say
desire could be the tantalizing lower lip
on the mouth of the Mediterranean Sea.
